The Hunger Games Review
You probably know what the hunger games is about by now, so I’m just going to start saying what I thought of the book.
Honestly, I loved it. It had action, story, and there wasn’t anything that didn’t make sense; it was good. Besides all the action, I loved the story part, where Katniss was learning how she had to act to survive.
The second biggest thing besides the plot, which got me to love this book, was Katniss’s personality and skills. Katniss is just a regular girl in the seam who had to feed her family by breaking the laws and hunts in the forest near their district. By knowing how to hunt, she knows how to use the bow very well and knows a little about making snares. All these skills she’s acquired through life to survive really helped her in The Hunger Games, which I think is cool. It’s not every day you read a book where the character already has the skills to survive whatever’s thrown at them.
I also love her personality. She’s very hateful; she hates everyone in the capital and dislikes people in general. She’s very determined. To survive the games, to keep her family alive, and to protect Peeta.
She isn’t like a lot of characters I read about. The books I’ve recently been reading, they were a hero, and very friendly. At least to his friends, and people not his enemies. Katniss, however, is rude to everyone except to her mother and Prim. Peeta and Haymitch, well, she’s not the nicest to them, even though they’re her friends, or at least allies.
What I’m trying to say is, Katniss isn’t a perfect, nice person, compared to some other heroes I read about. Which, I enjoy because it’s a different scenery.
I also like how great Katniss and Peeta’s personality goes together. They are entirely different from each other but are still friends. Peeta is amazing with words, whereas Katniss avoids talking, period.
So far, I have listed things I like about the book. Not it’s time to start talking about things I didn’t like.
Number one, what happened to Gale? You will hear this complaint throughout the series because it’s something that I need to know. What does he think of all this? What does he feel about Katniss and Peeta pretending to be in love? Does he know it’s an act? When Katniss sees her family after the games, I feel like there should have been a talk between Katniss and Gale about everything, or even a chapter of Gale’s perspective of the reunion.
Number two, Katniss. Despite all the good things I said about her, I feel one thing needs to be mentioned. She never really feels how evil the capital is until the death of Rue. However, it does make sense because she never had someone die from the capital so directly before, but still. Over the years watching the games, you would have thought she would see all these other younger children dying and realize how evil the capital is.
Although, until she got into the games, she never really felt what it was like, so it didn’t affect her as much. It could go either way, I guess.
Overall, this book was excellent; I rate it 8/10 and would read it a third time. If you haven’t read it yet, well, one, I feel bad because I totally spoiled it, but two, if you haven’t read it, you should. Even if you don’t like action very much, try it; it has some sweet story.
