5/4/22 Prompt #7

The engine roared with the constant spinning of the wheels. My feet vibrated as I pushed down the gas pedal. Through the windows, I could see my greatest adversary passing right next to me. I rolled down the window,

“Hey, how’re you doing! You seem to be doing good!” I shouted.

She rolled down her window. “Oh, I’m just peachy! At least I’m beating you in practice!”

Rolling our windows back up, we pushed harder on the gas. The crowd in my heat cheered, with the announcer saying something like, “and Gwen takes the lead! Will she be able to hold the lead? Or will Jacob take it from her?”

I cut a tight corner, almost falling off the track. Steadying my car, I raised my speed to be equivalent to hers. My whole car shook with all the vibrations of this new speed. Only one person in all of racing history managed to hold at this speed for more than thirty seconds. Suddenly, a rattling sound shook my car. Deciding my thirty minutes were up, and I would like to keep my car in good shape for the race tomorrow, I pulled back. Once we passed the finish line one last time, we stepped out of our vehicles.

“Why’d you pull back?” Gwen asked.

“How’d you hold that speed for that long?” I questioned back.
